Bath Remodeling

When you think about Bath remodeling you may get the idea that this is a small room (normally) and should be a pretty simple remodeling project.

While the bathroom is a smaller space than other rooms in the house, when remodeling everything in the house comes into play. The HVAC, water of course, electrical, framing and so on.

It is true that your bathroom  is smaller than most rooms in the house which means to fit all these pieces together correctly and make them look good, takes a little more effort from your remodeler.

Bathroom features are only limited by your imagination

Pretty much if you want a feature you can get it, just a few are;

  • TV's that are behind mirrors
  • Chromatherapy - Your water will change color, different colors affect your different moods.
  • Showers that make you feel as though you are showering in the rain. You can also get showerheads with Chromotherapy. Kind of fun don't you think?
  • Heated floors.
  • Air jetted bathtubs. (Much more sanitary than water jetted tubs). There are many brands but we have installed BainUltra and they are great bathtubs.

Bathrooms are one of the best rooms in your house to remodel and can create a wonderful start to your day.

Why not start you day out great everyday?

Bathroom Remodeling Ideas

  • Ask for what you want - If you want a custom shower with all the bells and whistles, and a fancy vanity with high quality faucets ask for them.

  • If the cost comes back higher than you like you can always take things out. Once your bath is remodeled it may be hard to add features.
  • Function - The bathroom has to have enough room to function properly, don't try to put in oversized bathtubs if it is going to cramp the space.
  • Design - A good bathroom design is worth its weight in gold (or money), having a design and drawings will save time and money during the remodel.
  • with a good design you won't get so many changes during the remodel - these cost money and slow things down.
  • A designer should be able to show you a 3D view of the new bath before you start your remodel. Nows the time to see that changes are needed.
  • If you are getting estimates a design shows the remodeler what you want and makes it easier to estimate.
  • Communication - Find a remodeler that will communicate with you. I always try to keep my clients up to date on where we are and what will happen the next day, as well as who will be there and when.
  • Showers - There are a lot of options to a shower
  • Will you have a standard tub/shower combination
  • A steam shower
  • Custom tile shower
  • Do you want multiple shower heads and body sprays? (A very nice option.)
  • Will you install grab bars? (I definitly recommend this, I'll let you know why in a second)

Grab Bars

Grab bars have come a long way in the last few years, you can get grab bars that don't really appear to be grab bars. Take a look at Moens line of grab bars.

Bath Remodeling

In this shower you can see a Moen grab bar on the back wall, it doesn't look like a grab bar that you normally think of, does it?

This adds a lot of safty to a shower and we all can slip in a wet soapy shower.

Tankless Water Heaters

Tankless water heaters are a great addition, they only use energy when you ask for water and they take up much less space than traditional water heaters.

Tankless water heaters also called on demand water heaters can be a little mis-understood.

  • On demand means that the water heater heats the water only when you ask it to, most of the time by turning on a faucet.
  • The water still has to travel from the water heater to your faucet. It will still be cold at the faucet until the water travels through the lines.

How to get hot water immediately at your faucet

You or your remodeler will need to install a re-circulating pump. (This will work with standard tank type water heaters too).

  • A re-circulating pump just circulates hot water through your water lines to flush out all the cold water, so when you turn on your faucet the hot water is there and waiting for you.

With a tankless water heater you cannot use a traditional re-circulating pump because it will void your warranty.

Get a pump that you either press a button to activate or that has a photo eye, (this one senses you come into the room and starts the pump)

Other features you can get - Some are very smart and offer options of filling your bathtub to the correct level, with exactly the right temperature water by itself. You can also get a remote control to change the water temperature.
